Abstract

In artistic tradition, realism tries to represent life as it really is; it is the style of art and literature in which everything is shown or described as it really is in life.. This paper believes that Ngugi is a realistic novelist. It authenticates this belief by drawing analogies between the contents of biographies, government reports and history books in Kenya· with the contents of Ngugi's three novels: The River Between; Weep Not, Child; and A Grain of Wheat.
