Abstract
One major aspect of the communications industry is the field of speech and report writing. Writers ill this field include journalists, press secretaries, public relations officers and liaison personnel. By their training and professional exposure, such persons should be equipped to make a success of this kind of writing. However, the predictability and dullness of many speeches, coupled with the blandness of reports in contempurary times, demand an occasional focus on how to improve them. This paper, therefore, examines those skills and techniques that are indispensable to writing speeches and reports that are meant to be impressive and functional.
